National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21st is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada.

Events take place across the city with many cultural institutions collaborating to highlight the rich cultures of our local first nations.

Carnegie Community Centre’s 2nd Annual National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration Block Party:
June 21, Noon to 6pm at Carnegie Community Centre (401 Main Street) in partnership with the City of Vancouver
Beginning with a welcome from Chief Bill Williams Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Carleen Thomas S?l?ílw?ta? (Tsleil-Waututh), Mary Point xwm??kw?y??m (Musqueam) Nations, the day of cultural sharing with performances, community organization tables, giveaways from the Carnegie Cultural Sharing Program, Hives for Humanity, and more.
BC Sports Hall of Fame: Open the Door to Indigenous Sport
June 21-22 @ 2pm-2:30pm at BC Sports Hall of Fame (Gate A – BC Place Stadium)
Free Guided Tours of the Indigenous Sport Gallery with purchase of admission to the Sport Hall.
The Indigenous Sport Gallery celebrates 40 Indigenous athletes, teams, coaches, builders and volunteers in BC who have made an impact on British Columbia’s sport history.
Kitsilano Showboat: Indigenous People Day
June 21 @ 7pm at Kitsilano Showboat (2300 Cornwall Ave)
The Showboat opens its season with a celebration of Indigenous Culture with Steven Seegerts’ Urban Aboriginal Drum Circle and dancing and storytelling by Katisha Paul, Kwikws Liisáos (Little Angel), from the W?JO?E?P (Tsartlip) and Lil’wat First Nations.
Vancouver Opera’s Voices of the Solstice Concert
June 21 @ 8pm at Martha Lou Henley Rehearsal Hall (1955 McLean Drive)
Part of Vancouver Opera’s VOICES: Free Concert Series, Voices of the Solstice is more than just a concert but provides a space for discovery and understanding through an exchange of musical practices and cultures, with the harmonious blend of indigenous traditions and contemporary vocal artistry to celebrate the solstice. Hosted by Renae Morriseau and featuring M’Girl, Russell Wallace, and musica intima.
